Once I had met Iain and Michelle I was so very pleased to be supplying them with their wedding DJ services – you couldn’t meet a nicer couple, it always makes my job far more rewarding when you know the people you’re working for are great. One thing I doubt I’ll ever forget was how nice the coffee was which was offered to me at our meeting. Thanks Iain!

A few months passed and I found myself confirming final details with Michelle on the run up to the wedding. There were a couple of last minute changes and a few song requests to fit in on the night.

I arrived before the guests to set up the uplighting and the audio equipment for the speeches and background music for the meal. I then headed outside to enjoy the glorious sunshine and start preparing the evening entertainment! You couldn’t wish for a better day to have a wedding.

I ate with Nigel the photographer (courtesy of the bride and groom), then we headed up to join the guests for the speeches.

Iain and Michelle had decided to take advantage of our wireless microphone service which made the wedding speeches flow easily.

Following the speeches was a slideshow and presentation for the amusement of the guests. I then advised the guests of a room turn around and that they should take advantage of the glorious weather and explore the grounds.

When the guests re-entered the room for the entertainment, everything was in place for the first dance. With all guests ready and waiting, I introduced the newly-weds and welcomed them to the dancefloor. The first dance was “I’ve had the time of my life”, which went down a treat with all guests.

The evening was then officially off to a start and from that point onwards the dancefloor was never once empty. I played on until just after half twelve finishing on the song which started the evening off.

The wedding was attended by friends and family of both the bride and groom.

Fonmon Castle is a lovely estate with beautiful grounds and a very warm feeling to it, it’s very hard not to feel at home once you’ve walked through the main front entranceway.

As the guests arrived at the castle, they were greeted with a champagne reception in the grand hallway, I provided the background music and the castle provided the drinks.

During the period on the run up to the wedding breakfast, Eleanor (the photographer) did her work leading the guests around the castle for the best photograph opportunities.

Once all photographs had been taken and all guests had arrived, the guests were led to the dining room ready for their wedding breakfast. The dining room spans the full length of the castle and has views overlooking the grounds on both ends. I had already set up the wedding speech package for the post meal speeches and also the background music for during the wedding breakfast.

The first speech after the wedding breakfast was that of the father of the Bride, as you can see in the photograph above, the table in the image is No.8, which was on the opposite end of the room to the top table, with the use of my wireless microphone system, all guests were able to hear all speeches loud and clear.

The groom’s speech came after the father of the Bride’s and it was a tribute to all family, friends and of course, Caroline. You’ll notice in the photograph above, there’s a large HDTV on a stand – this was a surprise to the groom, which was organised by Caroline and the best man Billy.

Billy was to use the TV screen to play through his visual props for his speech. As Billy required both hands to be free – one for the presentation navigation and the other for his speech notes, he was provided with one of my lapel microphones which was fitted to his tie. The best man’s speech took full advantage of the use of the HDTV and it was a great success with everyone enjoying it – even the groom!

Following the speeches, the guests had time to have a chat and get to know each other a little better before their wedding DJ entertainment began. I had been provided with a playlist by Ross, which was “corrected” by Caroline afterwards, this list contained a mixture of favourites by the bride and groom and some requests made by the guests.

I played through the playlist on the lead up to the first dance. When the time came, I gathered all guests to the dancefloor for that once in a lifetime special occasion and introduced the husband and wife for their first dance together.

The evening drew to a close with Caroline and Ross leaving the hallway under an archway of guests! A lovely way to end a fantastic wedding.

On the 6th April 2013, I got that opportunity. I had previously met with Laura and Rich at the Bear Pub in Crickhowell for our client meeting. While there we discussed the plans for the day and the way in which I would be able to provide my services to make their wedding day even better. I was keen to provide wedding DJ services for Laura and Rich as I knew how nice a venue Glangrwyney Court is (I have previously performed there in 2012 http://www.desiredisco.com/matt-alexs-wedding-glangrwyney-court-crickhowell-010912/ ).

Rich and Laura were a lovely couple and had great taste in music. The artists and songs they were mentioning all put a smile on my face and I knew exactly what they were after. They required the use of wireless microphones for speeches as they held their wedding breakfast in a marquee, this was set up prior to the guests arrival:

The waiter and waitress service was provided by Maids and Bulters who did an excellent job laying out the tables in preparation for the wedding breakfast and attending to the hungry wedding guests while they dined.

While the guests were in the marquee, I quickly set up the evening entertainment area in the Glangrwyney Court Barn. This was my first time performing in the barn so I was looking forward to it. I set up uplighting both inside and outside to create a beautiful welcome entrance for the guests as they transitioned from the marquee to the barn. Here is what awaited them:

At 9 O’clock on the dot, the ushers did what ushers do and ushered the guests from the marquee up to the Glangrwyney Court Barn. As they arrived they were greeted by my lovely lighting and some early 90′s house – as requested by Rich. Unlike the majority of weddings across the country, there was no actual first dance to start the night off so the evening began with a couple of requests. The guests helped themselves to drinks at the bar and the evening got underway. I then proceeded to play a mix of music from 90′s dance and house, to indie, chart, hip-hop and motown. The night went amazingly and everyone had a great evening, so many happy people under one roof was a great sight to see.

Congratulations to both Rich and Laura, you and your guests were fantastic, I couldn’t have hoped for a better group to DJ for. Enjoy your honeymoon and I wish you all the very best and hope to see you at one of your friend’s weddings!

The undercroft is set the the left side of the castle grounds as you enter through the main gate at Cardiff’s St. Mary St side. The undercroft at Cardiff Castle is as you’d expect below the ground level of the main castle courtyard.

I arrived at the castle early to set up the uplighting in time for the ceremony.

Shortly after the wedding ceremony the guests moved to the library for the wedding breakfast.

During their time at the library, I set up the evening entertainment equipment consisting of light colums, moving head lights, a starlit DJ booth, the slideshow TV and a few more uplighters!

Cardiff Castle was open to the public but the wedding area was closed off for wedding guests only. The undercroft had great acoustics as you’d imagine for a solid stone building. The evening sound system hardly required any power to sound fantastic.

The evening started with a grand entrance by Heidi and David, swiftly followed by their first dance. After this was the cake “cutting”, which was a case of feeding each other a bite of the fabulous cupcake mountain.

Following on from the cake cutting was the father and daughter dances, with firstly Heidi’s father, then step-father. After this the evening got underway. There were quite a few Dutch friends present so some Dutch House music was requested by David. The guests had a fun filled evening and had all of their requests played.

UV Lighting system

The party started at 7:30pm and the guests started off the party by heading to the bar, I can’t say I blame them.

Early in the evening I didn’t have too many song requests while guests had chance to catch up with each other and get a few drinks in.

There was a photo booth present which was a great hit with the guests, I’m pretty sure everyone had at least five photographs taken throughout the evening!

Happy Birthday!!!

All the guests gathered round Alex to sing happy birthday (and embarrass him as much as possible!), The candles were blown out and the party kicked off!

The requests came flowing in, including a few songs I’ve never been asked for before.. “Superman” and “Court of King Caractacus”, I know whoever asked for those songs is probably reading this… They were great requests and went down a treat

At the end of the night I took a photograph of Alex’s friends who made it through right until the very end. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves, especially Alex.

The survivors!

The product I’m talking about is the Wedding DJ Service you want and the brand is the company you pick. Desire Disco is a brand which is related to quality and professionalism. There are wedding DJ reviews on the homepage left by previous clients which are a testimony to the quality wedding service Desire Disco provides.

Is paying more always worth it?
Well, I guess that depends on what you’re paying more for. Many DJs will charge you more for a wedding disco because it’s a wedding. I firmly disagree with this “cash cow” view of wedding clients. I will always charge my clients based on the service they require. For example, if a wedding client only wants an evening disco for their wedding, without the extras such as uplighting, it wont cost them a penny more than if the event was a birthday.

I charge for each of the services I provide and I appreciate the business from my clients. This is why I offer discount on all services when they are bought as part of a package.

So how much should you expect to pay for a wedding DJ?
If you’re only having an evening disco, without a setup which takes hours to construct, then you should expect to pay a minimum of £250 – £300. If you think this is a lot of money, please consider the following:
Your DJ will need to use a van – which will need to be paid for.
Your DJ will need to pay for fuel to get to and from your venue.
Your DJ will need to pay for the equipment they use.
Your Wedding DJ will need to pay for subscriptions to associations, PAT certification of equipment, servicing of equipment and PLI.

If your wedding DJ is not doing one of the above, they are not doing it correctly.

Each wedding DJ is different which is why you cannot give a definitive price for all wedding DJs. The price you pay should reflect the talent of the DJ and the quality of the equipment they use. This means that a DJ who charges £300 for a wedding disco may be just as much of a bargain as a DJ who charges £1000 for a wedding disco. Of course I do not recommend in paying more for a DJ without any evidence that you will be receiving a better service for the extra money you will be paying.

Regardless of the type of business or product, people want their money to be well spent and not wasted. My clients do not mind spending extra on my services because they can relax in the knowledge that their wedding day will be managed with care and treated professionally.

Dancing on a cloud of dry ice

The guests were addressed through our wireless microphone service which was a complete necessity in this case as the wedding breakfast took place in the Hotel’s marquee.

After the first dance, guests were invited to join the newly-weds and the party got under way.

The evening went on until 1am in the morning with guests of all ages making it through until the end of the night! The night drew to a close to the sound of Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas. It was a fabulous wedding at the Manor House Hotel and I’d like to thank Holly and Paul for making me part of their special day.

This was never going to be your ordinary birthday bash; from the outset I could tell that Heather had high expectations for her special day. Uplighting, star lit dancefloors, monograms, centerpieces, a menu fit for royalty, two separate tribute acts and of course a disco were all part of the celebratory scheme.

Heather decided to pick a south Wales wedding DJ for her birthday simply because she wanted sophistication and quality which you don’t normally get with regular mobile discos.

All of the guests in attendance were very smartly dressed, with black ties and dresses from wall to wall.

As the guests arrived I played a mix of background tracks selected by Heather, then during the meal, I played a mixture of “Rat Pack” tracks so the guests could swing while eating! Straight after the meal was the first of the two acts, Tom Jones (played by Billy) who provided a great soundtrack and a rather saucy show.

Not long after Tom Jones was the second act, Freddie Mercury (played by Mark) who really looked the part!

After Freddie had finished doing his magic (no pun intended), I took to the center stage to play the tracks the guests had been asking for, this included the song behind youtube’s highest viewed video EVER – Gangnam Style!

The night was great fun and I’m glad Heather hired me to take part in her Birthday celebrations. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a well organised and planned Birthday party.

On Saturday 10th November 2012 I set off towards Cowbridge in South Wales. I was DJing for Nathalie and Matthew’s wedding at the Bear Hotel. As a quality south Wales wedding DJ, I provided more than just a disco for the wedded couple. I also provided the uplighting, monogram, arranged guests and played games. The layout of the suite at the Bear was very well done. It looked elegant and stylish – so credit to the staff there for that.

The entire day was running approximately an hour late which caused a bit of an inconvenience when setting up the equipment for the disco in the evening. The day was also a Welsh international rugby day, with Wales playing Argentina (a game which the Argies won convincingly) so the uplighting was themed in welsh colours of red and green and the guests were arranged into creating a “rugby tunnel” through which Nathalie and Matthew made their grand entrance, the noise from the guests was fantastic! The tunnel lead all the way to the starlit dancefloor so once there, the newly-weds had their first dance together as husband and wife.

There was also a mother and daughter dance straight after the first dance – to the tune of Tina Turner’s ‘Simply the Best’.

The night got under way and it was soon time for the buffet – which I must admit smelt delicious!

Shortly after the buffet we played a little game with Nathalie and Matthew where I asked them a series of questions which they had to answer by raising the shoe of the person they thought was the answer to the question. Eg. Who is the best cook? So both Matthew and Nathalie raised one of Matthew’s shoes in agreement. They didn’t always agree however and this proved to be highly entertaining for the guests.

The party went on until midnight and I was then presented with a cupcake which I happily accepted – it looked amazing (and tasted as good as it looked!).
